When Christmastime rolls around, there are so many different things to do and plenty of events to attend. One you will not want to miss is the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. As one of the largest boat parades in the country, it is certainly not one that you want to miss. What is this event? Throughout the month of December, boat owners bedeck their vessels with extravagant decorations and special effects. It is a sight that has been a part of Newport Beach tradition for over one hundred years and it has only grown.

The Beginnings of a Tradition:
Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

A century ago, a few dozen boat owners got together and thought it would be fun to deck out their boats for the season. The décor back then was limited and only a handful of boat owners participated. The event itself was very loosely planned and there weren’t that many festivities to go along with it.
Since then, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has grown by leaps and bounds to become the big occasion it is now. Hundreds of boat owners spend their time using lights, decorations, smartly designed themes, and much more to create a magical Christmas wonderland. Now, even homeowners get involved. Homes that line the shore are decorated with lights and festive scenes as are docks all along the way.
People from many different parts of the country travel to Newport Beach so that they can take part in this occasion.

The Big Events: Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Every December, from the third Wednesday to the third Sunday, the parade takes place in the evenings. That means there are five chances for you to enjoy the lights. Keep in mind that this is not a little event, and boat owners (as well as homeowners) spend tens of thousands of dollars on the décor for their displays. You will be dazzled by everything you get to see.

It’s no wonder that this parade has become one of the biggest in the country.

Getting Involved: Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Of course, you could be a regular spectator and stand on the shore as the boats pass by, but you will not be able to enjoy the full extent of the parade. You will only see the boats themselves, not the homes and docks. Additionally, you may miss the beginning and closing fireworks.

Instead, you could take a Newport Beach Boat Parade Christmas cruise with Davey’s Locker. Three cruises are offered each night to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the fun. From a boat, you will be able to see all of the extravagant displays and you will feel like you are fully immersed in the event – like you are actually a part of it. On the last night, you can even watch the fireworks from the water.

If you don’t make it on the right days to see the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, then let Davey’s Locker take you on a holiday cruise. These cruises are offered throughout the month of December so that you will have plenty of chances to enjoy and get into the Christmas spirit.
