It’s a wonderful time of the year, as the song would say. Christmas time is when everyone gets sentimental, spends their hours with family, and decorates the tree. In Newport Beach, it is time for the Christmas Boat Parade, which has become a staple tradition over the last century. If you haven’t been, then you are certainly missing out on a beautiful and exciting tradition. The Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Beach takes place every December for five nights, from the third Wednesday to the third Sunday. It’s much more than it sounds too.

The History: Christmas Boat Parade Newport

Christmas Boat Parade Newport

Over one hundred years ago, boat owners who lived and worked in Newport Beach thought it would be fun to start a Christmas parade tradition, so about a dozen boats floated by with decorations so that all of the residents could enjoy.

It certainly has grown since that time. In fact, now the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport includes hundreds of boats and yachts of all types. They have been decorated with lights, displays, themes, and even special effects. And, it’s not just the boat owners that get involved either. In fact, homeowners on the shoreline decorate their houses and docks too.

Newport Beach becomes a veritable winter wonderland for those five nights in December.

The Extent of the Display: Christmas Boat Parade Newport

No one holds back during the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport. In fact, it is not even considered out of the ordinary that boat owners spend tens of thousands of dollars on the displays. They truly do go all out, so it should be no wonder to anyone that people travel from all over the country to take in the displays.
If you visit, you certainly will not be let down and you will find yourself wanting to go back every single night of the week. Then, you will count down the days until next year when you can see the ultimate display of Christmas decorations once again.

The Christmas Boat Parade is one of the largest in the country, and you can only appreciate part of it from the shore. That’s why you need to consider another option.
