This Wednesday is Earth Day! The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. This will be its 50th Anniversary! 1970 was an important year for environmental action. As a result of the Earth Day movement, in 1970 important legislation was passed on clean water, clean air, and toxic substances. Some notable examples include enacting the endangered species act and the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency! Legislation aimed to protect our planet is an important part of conservation so marine life (and us!) can enjoy a clean and safe ocean.
