Every year for more than a century, people have flocked to Newport Beach to enjoy the Newport Christmas Parade. Now, millions of people come from Southern California and even states away to enjoy this holiday event. This Newport Christmas Parade has long been a part of the festivities and it is one that people love to either be a part of or watch from the shore.
The History: Newport Christmas Parade
Back in the 1900s, the Newport Christmas Parade was not that organized and only a few boats took part in it. Of course, the decorations were more limited. However, the tradition was started by those few dozen who paraded their boats, bedecked in holiday spirit.
Things certainly have changed, because that little parade has become a force to be reckoned with. It is now one of the largest boat parades in the country with hundreds of participants. It certainly is a sight to behold.
What the Newport Christmas Parade Has to Offer
For those interested in the Newport Christmas Parade, it has turned into a big event with prizes for different categories. Each ship is not just showing off the owner’s holiday spirit. They are also competing for top honors.
The Newport Boat Parade includes categories for different types of boats and yachts as well as prizes based on types of decorations. And the owners certainly do go all out to ensure their boat has the best chance of winning. Of course, there is also an overall grand prize winner too.
This is not some little parade either. Boat owners do everything they can, and some of them spend tens of thousands of dollars to bedeck their boats with lights, decorations, music systems, and special effects. It’s a massive competition, and it certainly does draw a crowd.
That’s not all either. The whole community gets involved. People spend money to decorate their homes and docks on
shore as well. The whole landscape around the Newport Christmas parade turns into a magical Christmas wonderland.
Being a Part of the Newport Christmas Parade
Perhaps you would like to enjoy the Newport Christmas parade? If so, then you don’t have to look any further than Davey’s Locker. They offer three cruises each night of the Newport Beach Boat Parade so that you can enjoy the boats and shoreline décor from the water. It is an immersive event.
The boat parade happens every year on the same schedule: from the third Wednesday of December to the third Sunday of December. That means there are several nights available to take in the lights and Davey’s Locker can help make this happen.
The cruises will allow you to view all of the boats and yachts that are a part of the parade and then enjoy the docks and homes that have been decorated as well. It’s like being a part of the parade without having to own and decorate your own boat! If you come on the Sunday night cruise, you will even get to watch the fireworks finale from the water, adding a little something extra to the experience. Whether you can make the Newport Christmas parade or not, Davey’s Locker offers holiday cruises throughout the month of December for you to enjoy.
