There is so much to do at Christmastime, you will definitely want to stop and relax for a while so that you can take in the beautiful scenery of the season. The perfect way to do that is the Newport Christmas Boat Parade. One of the top events in the country for the Christmas season, this parade will certainly be a memorable event. With humble roots dating back more than 100 years, this parade has grown into one of the largest in the country. That’s why people travel from many different states just to take in the festivities.
The Beginnings of a Tradition: Newport Christmas Boat Parade
More than 100 years ago, a few boat owners decided that they wanted to do something special for Christmas. So, they decorated their vessels and began the Newport Christmas Boat Parade tradition. In the beginning, there were only a dozen or so boats, but things have certainly changed. These days, your breath will be taken away by the hundreds of boats and yachts that participate in the Newport Christmas Parade. It certainly is a tradition worth seeing, and that’s why so many people travel specifically so that they can enjoy the Newport Christmas Boat Parade.
The Participants: Newport Christmas Boat Parade
It’s not just the hundreds of boats and yachts that are adorned with decorative lights and displays either. In fact, homes all along the shoreline are decorated as well. People truly get into the parade festivities by using dazzling lights and special effects on their house as well as their docks. It’s certainly a sight to behold.
In fact, the Newport Christmas Boat Parade is such a big event that many boat owners spend tens of thousands of dollars on displays, lights, special effects, and much more.
