When the ocean is calm and glassy it acts as a window into an underwater world. To rest, humpback whales sometimes suspend themselves just under the surface with relaxed breathing. Next time you doze off at night imagine being a whale, suspended in a calm blue ocean. A minke whale glides through crystal blue water off of the Newport Beach coastline. These small whales have big personalities and are often very curious! Captain Alex was ready with his GoPro last summer when this little minke whale swam over to check out our boat! *******#whale #nature #natureaddict #underwaterphotography #earthfocus #earthcapture #wildlife #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddict #discoverocean #ocean May 4, 2020 Read More
Is anyone else wondering what the whales are up to? Our friends over at @pacificoffshore happened upon this happy humpback whale that was feeding with over 1,000 common dolphins this weekend. The whales are still out there and we can’t wait to get back to see them! *******#dronephotography #dronestagram #droneoftheday #dronenature #dronegear #whale #whalewatching #discoverocean #ocean #newportbeach #earthcapture #earthofficial May 3, 2020 Read More

Meet "Popcorn"! On Sunday, our friends over at @newportcoastaladventure went on a scouting mission where they found a humpback whale and her calf. This exuberant calf breached nearly 100 times in a row!! Photographer, @markgirardeau captured the action and fellow photographer @seataceans dubbed the little whale "Popcorn" for the popcorn-like kernels on it's face (these are commonly found barnacles!) The mother and her calf will continue to travel north towards the feeding area they are known to frequent in Monterey Bay. Safe travels little whales!*******#wildlifephotography #wildlife #whale #whalewatching #earthfocus #earthpix #animallovers #canonphotography #newportbeach #ocean #oceanphotography #discoverocean #wildlifeaddicts #natureaddict April 29, 2020 Read More
There she blows! *A common question we get is: "How do you find whales?" There are no special technologies or radar that help us find whales. We rely on experience and our eyes to locate them. Whales are not stationary and there is no single location they like to just "hang out." So each trip we start fresh. Our captains and crew use binoculars and eyesight to scan the horizon for the tell-tale blow of a whale. We also look for their back and their flukes (or tail). On a clear day and with the aid of binoculars, we can see whales several miles away. In this image, a blue whale exhales displaying the classic whale blow we are looking for. #Repost @newportcoastaladventure ・・・Electrical dolphins!! Last night Capt Ryan took the Zodiac out in the amazing bioluminescence condition we’ve been having in Newport. With the talents of @patrickc_la, we captured this incredible display as dolphins swam through the dinoflagellate plankton, producing one of the most amazing light shows in nature! Sea lions might hobble around on shore but they are graceful swimmers underwater! Sea lions propel themselves with their pectoral flippers (arms). It looks like they are flying under the water and they effortlessly glide and twirl about.
